TINbox is chugging along, and FINALLY, i have an opportunity to redesign the site the way I want to. Expected launch is summer 2010, so stay tuned for it. In the meanwhile, I'll keep updating the portfolio, so that you can stay abreast of what TINbox is up to!

Sorry for the lag, but it's been a HECTIC few months. Here's the scoop:
- Working on finalizing the site design for dannysuarez.com. Should be up and
running in a few weeks.
- Been busy working with LA based print vendor DCB Solutions, on a number of
projects, in an effort to expand my California client base.
- Took on freelance project work with Konami Digital Entertainment, makers of
some of the best video and trading card games that have molded our twisted little
minds for years.
- The portfolio's been updated, and I'm testing out some new skins. Let me know
what ya think!

Happy Holidays everyone!
As the holiday season gets closer, my restaurant clients are ramping up their
holiday marketing campaigns. How? Booze and Billboards!
Uncle Jack's Steakhouse, located in Manhattan and Bayside, Queens, NY,
has come to TINbox to design their outdoor holiday signage. It's promoting
their holiday giftcard giveaway. And when you get inside, you can cozy
up to their limited edition Pomegranate Vodka, for which TINbox designed
the labels. It's their way of keeping you
warm this winter =)

| The
10issues store is up! 10issues is a new avenue of though for TINbox. Paying homage to my youth and influences, this collective of prints & t-shirts shows the many facets that helped shape, and continue to shape TINbox. The store is still being stocked with stuff, but please feel free to visit it here, or by clicking on the logo. Also check out the 10issues myspace page here 10issues....what's yours? |
One thousand congrats to Jonald Reyes and Groovy Ghost Films, the brains behind
"That Asian Thing," who just had his first private screening of the
film! For anyone that has ever done anything for the public eye, you must know
how nerve racking it can be to have your ideas and creativity judged by a panel
of people. For being able to move into that arena, I tip my hat to you, sir.
please check out Jonald's "That Asian Thing" site here
and here
to see more about this great film. Get emmmmmmm! Also, thanks for letting TINbox
design the poster! insert shameless plug here:

Have yourself a goodburger...
A few years back, TINbox designed a series of logos for a little burger joint
named goodburger. Who would've thought that, 2 and a half years later, it really
was a good burger! goodburger...home
of the goodburger, has just opened its 4th restaurant in NY, and
TINbox couldn't be prouder...cuz' we designed the logo!

Make
sure to check out That ASIAN Thing, a documentary that explores the Asian-American
influence in mainstream America.
Check out their site here
Writer/Producer Jonald Reyes has a note worthy of everyone's
attention:
Peoples,
As many of y'all know, I've been working on an Asian-American documentary and
along the way have run into many great people and prominent activists. Something
that I've gotten into within the last couple of years is learning about politics
and trying to be smarter w/the issues that we deal with as citizens of these
rockin' states. SO, I've volunteered @ an aldermanic campaign these past couple
of months and have found it informative, educational, and a great way to meet
people. I just wanted to pass on a youtube video I edited and to say that I
hope you guys start learning about the environment around you (in all aspects)
because you can really help make a difference.

Take care and tell me wassup with y'all when you get a chance! Thanks!

I'll answer that in a littlebit. Let me fill you in on the changes that have been going on. TINbox has grown, and necessitated changes, from the roots to the leaves. First off, we've restructured internally, trimming away the unnecessary, and taking TINbox back to the fun-filled design house that we started years ago, and fell in love with. After fxing that up, we went about the process of re-learning our craft, by studying not only the classics of design, typography, technology and design theory, but by looking ahead to the future, and paying attention to the loads upon loads of work that brilliant young minds have been putting out. Then it hit us: All of this fantastic, budding designers had talent up the @$$,but no where to go with it. Because schools don't teach you the most important parts of our business. They teach you how to push the envelope, but not collect the check; to think outside of boxes, but not how to make the thought print-ready. We've been in this mess for over 10 years, and j (aka., the hairless owner), had just recently realized that his business was all about giving to the client, but less about giving back to the designer who is trying to make it.
Aside from theslight logo revision & painfully simple HTML site, which should be alot easier to view (should you have been living in a cave for 10 years, and not upgraded your iBoulder to the latest Flash component), we've begun the process of assembling a portfolio, containing 10 years of client work. Just to give you an idea of how much work that is, let me give you one example: Our book publishing portfolio contains over 150 covers alone. We cry frequently when we think of how dumb we were to take the book covers, but not the digital files...poor poor scanner. Any way, please give us a little time on that. We're updating it as fast as we can.
Also, in an attempt to give back to the community that embraced and nurtured our talents, we want to do the same. So, TINbox is now also a hub to help develop a young designer's portfolio. We are actively looking for talented, freelance designers, who need to either round out their skills, put real-worldclient pieces into their book, or just get their foot into the door of this weird world called creative services. And hopefully, they can make it big, and remember this little design house in their award speech for Best Art Direction in a Pornographic Clown/Animal Scene. Brings a tear to the eye, I tell ya.
Ok, enough of my ranting. Enjoy the site!
The
client is NOT always right...but they ALWAYS have a point.
Time is not money, it's more than that. Why? You can always make more money.
Revision on above: You can always make another dollar, but you'll never get
any younger
—
On Being a Boss: When you are in a position to manage people, always remember
that THEY work for the client...YOU work to keep them motivated.
Never take your people for granted. They are your hands, and you, their brain.
—
From H. Underdown, a LOOOOONG time ago: only show them ONE gear.
if you work fast, they'll love it...if you work faster, they'll expect it.
